Epignosis

I wonder if anyone wants to “know” God.  Know Him intimately.  For instance, if you are with your spouse enough you learn her cryptic language.   We should know God enough to understand his Word.  We should know our relationship with Him.  We should have faith knowing what He will and won’t do.  We should know what He wants us to do.  We should know God’s heart.

Who knows the heart of a man, save the spirit within him.  But we have God’s Spirit.  So then why should we not know Him?  There should no longer be a mystery.  Paul said he preached the mystery.  Jesus said that the knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven should be revealed to us.  Jesus himself should be revealed to us by his Spirit.  The Spirit searches even the deep things of God.  So why do we ignore the possibility, the greatest privilege, of knowing God intimately?  Why do we settle for just knowing a few truths, but not The Truth?

I know some people fear the spiritual realm, but that’s where God is.  They are afraid of opening themselves to demonic attacks.  I’m all about wisdom, but what is fear and what is wisdom?  Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  Not fear of Satan.  Satan is subject to us, but he has petrified us with fear to keep us from knowing God.  Satan cannot undo the work of Jesus, but he will try to make it ineffective by keeping us from stepping out in faith.

Why should fear keep us from God?  I’m convinced that nothing shall separate  me from the love of God… and perfect love expels ALL fear.  We must get to that place and know God.  He has given us privileges.  We can go where satan can’t.  Though I walk through the valley I shall fear no evil… your rod and your staff comfort me.  We know these scriptures, but do not act on them.  Jesus told us that he left us peace; peace that surpasses understanding by his Holy Spirit.  Let’s take what is given us.  Let’s pursue God with our whole hearts, walk with Him in the cool of the day, and know his heart.
